Please allow us to share Wanda’s inspiring journey filled with hope, love, resilience, and survival. Wanda was brought to NAS in mid-July 2025, as a stray. She was alone, sick, and estimated to be merely 6 weeks old. She was diagnosed with a septic joint in a front leg, which is a bacterial infection within the joint space, often resulting from trauma like a cat bite or puncture wound. The condition leads to intense pain and swelling, necessitating immediate and prolonged antibiotic treatment.
After completing 8 weeks of successful treatment, something just didn’t seem right. Wanda was letting us know she needed more help. The veterinarian delivered the frightening diagnosis of FIP for this now barely 12-week-old kitten. While once a fatal disease, recent anti-viral treatments for FIP are effective if treated promptly. She was so good for her injections. Wanda was determined to overcome FIP, and so were we! At the end of treatments, Wanda was clear!
Then, if all of this wasn’t enough...along came yet another setback. Wanda contracted ringworm in early December, preventing her path to the adoption floor. Surprisingly, she was very accepting of her lyme sulfur dips. She completed treatment in February, and became available for adoption...finally!
Regardless of the treatments she endured, she was still in high spirits and excited to see us. She maintained her love for and trust in humans, while also accepting the friendship of another cat after being alone for that long. Wow, what an incredible journey for Wanda over these past 7 months!
